WORLD PREMIER: Every Grain of Us 米力

We are thrilled to invite you to join us for the world premier of Every Grain of Us 米力: A multi-sensory dance performance exploring Rice, Migration, and the Taste of Home, debuting at the Geneva Car Barn Powerhouse!

Through movement, storytelling, and sensory experiences, Every Grain of Us 米力 invites audiences to consider how food carries family histories and connects generations across cultures and borders. Rice becomes both a material and a metaphor: something we eat, something we remember, and something that carries our roots.

The performance envisions a shared space where movement, storytelling, and the experience of eating invite audiences into a collective act of remembrance and reconnection.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Chinchin Hsu is a Taiwanese-born, San Francisco-based dancer, choreographer, and educator whose practice explores migration, cultural identity, memory, and belonging through movement. With over 18 years in the Bay Area arts community, she creates work that weaves personal and collective narratives through a lens of magical realism, examining how shifting political climates and the passage of time shape everyday people's relationships to home, heritage, and one another across communities and generations.

What does it mean to carry the taste of home across borders? For Taiwanese-born, San Francisco-based dance artist and choreographer Chinchin Hsu, the answer begins with a bag of rice.

When Chinchin left Taiwan, her family packed rice in her luggage. Her Ah-ma (grandmother) asked her to mix a little into her meals so she could carry a taste of home while adjusting to American food. This personal memory became the starting point for Every Grain of Us, an evening-length dance work exploring rice as a vessel for migration, cultural memory, nourishment, and belonging.
