Help us immerse this historic 1901 brick building with live performances, local artist installations, and student-made works!

The Geneva Powerhouse stands as a testament to San Francisco's rail car history, once sheltering the city's inaugural rail cars. Today, our mission is to cultivate a space that that reflects the youth and artists it serves.

Performing Arts Workshop aims to make the Geneva Powerhouse a dedicated performance space in District 11. We want to center resources for our youth and artists in the bay area to create, showcase, and exhibit artworks centering Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latine, and Queer Trans Artists’ experiences and stories.

The Geneva Powerhouse is an event, exhibit, meeting, and performance arts and culture venue in the heart of San Francisco’s District 11. Your partnership with us funds our arts programs, performances, and increases community accessibility for this cultural arts space. Through your contributions, we have been able to provide 100+ no-cost youth arts programs, both on and off-site.

District 11, encompassing the Excelsior and OMI neighborhoods, is a culturally rich, vibrant, and diverse stronghold of San Francisco's working class

Due to systemic racism and wealth inequality, D11 students and families have long been underserved. As a dedicated community organization in D11, Performing Arts Workshop is honored to have partnered with D11 over the span of 40 years through youth arts programming and enrichment. We look forward to growing this relationship by bringing forth a dedicated, impactful, and inspiring arts and storytelling venue for the youth and D11 community.

→ Half of District 11 residents were born outside the U.S.

→ This is the highest concentration of immigrant residents in SF.

→ District 11 has the fewest residents (one-third) living in English-only speaking households.

These communities have long been underserved

District 11’s per capita youth investment is 59% the investment of neighboring districts. For decades, community members have been calling for an arts center to provide a place to celebrate the cultural richness of all who live there, and a designated place for youth to learn through the arts.
