Through arts education utilizing healing-informed learning, students process and express emotion in a safe environment responsive to individual and generation-defining challenges.

Geneva Powerhouse youth art programs are taught by Teaching Artists who guide students through art forms such as dance, spoken word, and the practice of ancestral healing knowledge while affirming gender, sexuality, and culture. Students also may join the Geneva Powerhouse Youth Advisory Council, a paid cohort that works with our artists to design the Geneva Powerhouse space and programming to create a youth-led community hub for LGBTQIA and youth of color.

Recognizing the challenges immigrant youth and families face in navigating new systems of racism that differ from those in other countries, we focus our programming on affirming personal and cultural identity through play-based learning. Our spring residencies culminate in a showcase for the local community at the Geneva Powerhouse, our performance/gallery space in District 11.

Summer Offerings

Welcome to Natural Nappers, a five-week summer program rooted in the concept of "Rest as Resistance" by Tricia Hersey, where children discover the symbiotic relationship between mindful movement and restful practices.

Led by Teacher Brianna, students engage in playful activities fostering physical movement, sensory exploration, and social interaction while learning to listen to their bodies and cultivate awareness of their surroundings. Through a curriculum blending yoga-inspired stretches, creative movement exercises, storytelling, and sensory play, children develop resilience, emotional regulation, and a deeper connection to themselves and others. Classes will be held three days a week, to provide ample time for active engagement and tranquil moments of rest. Please note your little one must be 3 to 5 years old and potty trained to attend class. Join us on this transformative journey, empowering our little ones to thrive through mindful movement, play, and intentional rest.

Youth Advisory Committee

We're so excited to share that we will be bringing back our youth leadership group called Youth Advisory Committee this semester! Every Thursday, our Teaching Artist Natasha will be hosting a YAC meeting hour open to any youth, ages 10-18, in San Francisco from 5:30-6:30pm at the Geneva Powerhouse.

Youth do not need to be enrolled in Powerhouse our current classes but will need to register and submit a Caregiver/Supervisor Liability Form (available at the Powerhouse) to attend. We do ask for regular attendance.

Youth Advisory Committee intends to highlight and present projects that center local BIPOC and LGBTQIA young artists; these projects will be hosted in, with and for the D11 community. This group plays an integral part in our Powerhouse commitment to foster community and increase access for these D11 communities.
