Through arts education utilizing healing-informed learning, students process and express emotion in a safe environment responsive to individual and generation-defining challenges.
Geneva Powerhouse youth art programs are taught by Teaching Artists who guide students through art forms such as dance, spoken word, and the practice of ancestral healing knowledge while affirming gender, community, and culture. Students also may join the Geneva Powerhouse Youth Advisory Council, a paid cohort that works with our artists to design the Geneva Powerhouse space and programming to create a youth-led community hub for LGBTQIA and youth of color.
Recognizing the challenges immigrant youth and families face in navigating new systems of racism that differ from those in other countries, we focus our programming on affirming personal and cultural identity through play-based learning. Our spring residencies culminate in a showcase for the local community at the Geneva Powerhouse, our performance/gallery space in District 11.

Students ages 10-18 are eligible for a $400 participation stipend upon the completion of one semester of the Geneva Powerhouse class they enroll in. Stipends will be distributed via gift card upon the completion of the term.
To qualify for the $400 stipend, students must attend 13 out of 15 sessions. We encourage students to arrive up to 10 minutes early to be ready for class to start on time.
There are no guaranteed make up opportunities set at this time. If a student has an unexpected absence for sickness or an emergency, caregivers may reach out to Powerhouse Program Manger, Reina, to discuss possible next steps.
Late policy: Students will be considered late if they arrive 15 minutes after the start of class. If students are more than 15 minutes late, they are still welcome to participate, but will be marked absent.
Powerhouse Program Manager, Reina, will share student’s up to date attendance record through email mid-way and at the end of the semester. Students and caregivers can reach out to check the most up-to-date attendance record for stipend standing.

We ask for regular attendance.
