SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA CALENDAR CALL FOR ENTRIES |
||
What’s Happening? The nation’s second annual Arts in Education Week takes place this year September 11–17. Last summer, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution, introduced by local Congresswoman Jackie Speier, designating the second week of September as a time to celebrate how “arts education, comprising a rich array of disciplines, including dance, music, theatre, media arts, literature, design, and visual arts, is a core academic subject and an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students.” |

What Can I Do? Bay Area arts and education organizations have created an online National Arts in Education Week Calendar, in cooperation with the Alameda County Arts Commission and the San Francisco Arts Commission, where local community and school-based public arts events (free or low-cost) occurring between September 11 and 17 can be posted. AEP forum attendees, as well as local stakeholders, families, teachers, teaching artists, and arts advocates, will have the chance to find out about and attend your events. Organizations are particularly encouraged to host family-friendly events on Saturday, September 17. In-school and out-of-school events can occur all week. |
